Or do we have our heads too far up our asses to care?
Zero Boss brought this to my attention and being that I voted for Doctors Without Borders PSA's on our BlogHer ad network....we all should think about this.
How can we get excited about iPhone's and the new season of 24 when this is the state of our planet.
Not only should we be horrified by the tragedy that is going on right now all around the world. We need to be horrified by our media and our short attention spans.
It shouldn't need stupid things like Live 8 and some rock stars and celebrities telling us to think about our planet and the people living on it.
We need to rethink how we live our lives. How the luxury we exist in is partly due to the squalor and horror that others survive in.
We need to think about how not only our governments deal with each other on the global platform but how and what controls the power and corruption of the of the megacorporations out there. Who is calling the shots? Why can't things be 'fixed?'
We can't keep just sending paltry charity to these countries. We can't keep with bandaid approaches to such ENORMOUS problems.
More has to be done.
We need to start asking the right people the right questions and demanding answers.

"Or do we have our heads too far up our asses to care?"
Most people prefer to keep their heads there rather than take a good look at what is really going on in the world.
Solving the infrastructure issues in most of these countries would go a long ways towards solving the other issues. Once folks have clean water, reliable power and passable roads they are harder to oppress.
I'm reminded of Richard Shindell's song "Money for Floods," which poignantly puts the spotlight on the callous neglect of the daily needs of impoverished Americans in contrast to the free flow of money in the event of catatrophe. Of course it was written before Katrina...but its main message is still valid: we have the funds and the knowledge to solve these things if enough people demanded solutions.

Hi Kerry,
Yes. Yes. I heard Stephen Lewis speak last year and was stunned stupid by his statistics (and I like to think I keep myself informed). So many babies (in the hundred of thousands) dying each year b/c drugs that are available in the west are not making it to Africa--these are the drugs that prevent mother to fetus transmission of HIV. Millions more deaths b/c of a lack of drugs. No doses sized for children so children going without drug.
Yes, this world is going to hell in a hand-basket so fast and I don't even know what to do about it.
