The Evolution of Language or I am Just Too Old To Be Hip To Your Lingo

Mr. Sternberg over at his house had a great discussion going about lost words and the evolution of our languages.

It is amazing watching it change before our eyes.

As in today.

I just got home from an afternoon at the movies with Adam.
Check a couple of the parenting forums and there is a thread that just sent me into hysterics.

Did you know that "Goof" is a bad bad word?
Especially if you are in or from prison.

I was blown away by this. But then realized that words and their meanings are changed all the time.

'Gay' is the perfect example.

Another one that sprung to my mind and found out that it was a 'banned' and therefore edited to look like this '!@#%,' is the term faggot. Used to be a innocuous and common term.

Not anymore.

And apparently 'Goof' is going that way too.

Don't ask me how a bunch of moms know all about prison talk.

Well I use to use the word "sod" as in "you silly sod" until I went to England and my cousin told me that was a bad word and I had been using it around children.

I met my hubby via internet...oh I know...but anyhow...he had a whole internet vocabulary I wasn't familiar with a language unto itself.

Yes it is very interesting how words can change...thanks for the heads up on Goof because that is another one I use fairly often.
Funny how my brother the ex con didn't tell me that. Hmmmmmm
