Despite feeling crappy today, I give you this.
Not a conversation with my boy...but this is his list that he refers to each night when he is trying to delay bedtime as muc has possible or wiggle his way into our bed.
Step 1. Claim thirst
If this does not work go to .... (but wait at least 5 minutes between each tactic)
Step 2. Claim I am too hungry to sleep.
If this does not work go to....
Step 3. Suddenly have a headache that requires tylenol
Step4. Suddenly feel that I am going to throw up
Step 5. (the big guns) Suddenly feel like I miss my deceased Poppa and need to talk about it.
This one only works with dad.
If dealing only with mom, realize quickly that you are screwed and while you will attempt EACH step it is without the usual enthusiasm and just going through the motions for traditions sake.

Steve~
Maybe you should just slip some Nyquol in his juice.
There is a reason that I am not a parent. Given what I said above it is probably a good thing.
My son's tactics for putting off sleep:
1) had a bad dream (he trots this out even if he's only been in bed for twenty minutes)
2) needs water
3) needs a toy
4) claims his room has scary noises
5) up until we got him his big-boy bunk bed (with no access to the top bunk until he is six at least), he claimed he was too big a boy for the crib.
Sneaky little thing...
Sounds like my son and he is almost 13. LOL
Did I mention this kid is too smart by half?
I am gonna probably seem like I am rubbing your nose in this Kerry..lol. My son just goes to bed (heh!)
Now Leah on the other hand. OMG.
Great post. I think we all go through those things. Each kid is different and we have to use different tactics, er..ummm...Parenting skills with each. *LOL*
Have a great day.
